Occult femoral neck fracture.

چکیده
coronal imaging; figure 1C). She was treated with osteosynthesis (figure 1D) to stabilise the femoral neck fracture, which resulted in a good functional outcome at 6-month follow-up. Occult femoral neck fractures are frequently misdiagnosed. Once misdiagnosed, the non-displaced fracture may become displaced. When this occurs, patients may need to be treated with hip arthroplasty, which is more invasive than osteosynthesis. In the context of persistent hip pain where plain radiographs and CT reveal no abnormality, consideration should be given to the use of MRI as it can be more accurate at detecting occult hip fractures.

Analysis of initial injury radiographs of occult femoral neck fractures in elderly patients: a pilot study.
Diagnosis of occult hip fractures by initial radiographs remains challenging in the emergency department. Previously, the gold standard for accurate diagnosis of occult hip fractures was magnetic resonance imaging. This study used initial radiographs obtained in the emergency department to evaluate specific signs and measurements as diagnostic references for occult femoral neck fractures in eld...
متن کاملA cascade of preventable complications following a missed femoral neck fracture after antegrade femoral nailing
BACKGROUND Occult femoral neck fractures associated with femoral shaft fractures are frequently missed and may lead to adverse outcomes. CASE PRESENTATION A 46-year old female presented to our institution with increasing groin pain one month after antegrade intramedullary nailing of a femoral shaft fracture at an outside hospital. Radiographic evaluation revealed a displaced ipsilateral femor...

AIM To evaluate whether a modified radiographic view of the femoral neck improves the diagnosis of occult proximal femoral. MATERIALS AND METHODS Prospective study of patients presenting with clinically suspected proximal femoral fractures or who underwent traditional plain radiographic views and the Bristol hip view (a 30-degree angled projection). Six blinded independent observers assessed ...
متن کاملEarly magnetic resonance imaging of radiographically occult osteoporotic fractures of the femoral neck.
Osteoporosis is associated with thinning of cortical and trabecular bone, which reduces bone strength and predisposes individuals to fracture development. Femoral neck fractures in patients with osteoporosis may not be apparent on radiographs. Magnetic resonance imaging is useful at detecting these radiographically occult fractures; yet, the practice has not been widely adopted in Hong Kong. In...
متن کاملAre occult fractures of the hip and pelvic ring mutually exclusive?
We have evaluated retrospectively the relationship of bony injuries seen on 106 consecutive MR scans in elderly patients of a mean age of 81.4 years (67 to 101) who were unable to bear weight after a low-energy injury. There were no visible fractures on plain radiographs of the hip but eight patients (7.5%) had fractures of the pubic ramus. In 43 patients (40.5%) MRI revealed a fracture of the ...
